Brand New Course

It's great to be starting a new course with familiar folks.  I am fortunate to be able to participate in this program and gain such wonderful ideas and insight from so many wonderful people.  I know taking on a Master's program is a challenge, especially with the demands of teaching our own kids, but it has been so worth the extra effort.  It has kept me going and given me so many new strategies to apply in my own classroom.  It has also kept me fighting to get science education back on the forefront of our classrooms.  I am enjoying the collaboration and I feel more confident as a professional.  I appreciate all of those educators out there that are in it for the kids and because they are just as passionate as I am about teaching.

I will continuously send out thoughts and prayers for each and every one of us.  Lord knows we need it.

  1. Lisa,

I am totally with you in regards to getting Science back in the classrooms! It's so frustrating to me as a high school science teacher when students come in saying they hate science. Clearly their exposure has been limited. Kudos to you for all your efforts!

  2. Thanks Tracey,

Being a science fanatic and an elementary teacher presents its challenges. So much focus is put on reading and mathematics. Yes, I know students cannot functions if they cannot read and write, however, our job is to create well rounded students, therefore we need to integrate our curriculum to include our science and social studies. I am fortunate this year in that I have a principal willing to let us plan our reading lessons using the informational texts of science and social studies. Not many principals allow that.

Thanks for your input and I agree with you. I have spoken to many middle and high school teachers and their frustration is similar to yours. I truly believe that us elementary teachers need to take a stand and put that science and social studies back into action in our curriculum.
